United States
Flavr Savr tomatoes were a product of Calgene. Calgene had technology that Monsanto viewed as valuable. The process of reducing ethylene production in the plant during times of stress will become valuable. Flavr Savr tomatoes probably weren't the best variety for taste reasons, which didn't fit well with consumers. I think Monsanto does the best job in the industry at combining breeding and technology into a product that the consumer likes to use.
