We used the red bar on bad wheels. Also used 80 grit on a DA like you said. The trick is to make the aluminum get hot when you buff it that makes the metal move , so you get a smooth shiny surface. You can run caps when it's cool but when it's hot they can tear up a lot on a truck or trailer.
