Subject: Re: Tell me about a Volvo truck & engine VED12--Pros & cons

Wheatley, Arkansas

Pros; a Volvo will outride any truck out there, hands down IMO. A Volvo will out turn any truck I've ever been around. Volvos have very good visibility. A Volvo is built to survive a crash more than any other truck I'm aware of, the engine mounts are designed to drop the engine out the bottom in the event of a headon crash. The Volvo engine pulls good, runs good, and is pretty fuel efficient IMO. The 3.73 gears and 345 horses with I'm thinking 1550 torque will pull like a champ out of the fields loaded.

Cons; Volvos having steel cabs will be heavier and more prone to rust than aluminum cabs. The instrumentation is not as simple or reliable as the single gauge system used in Paccar trucks. The Volvo engine is not as easy to find mechanics to work on as the big three. The Volvo does not carry the prestige and awe factor with the neighbors as a Paccar product would.

If I was in the market today for a farm to market truck, and I was going to be the one driving it, would I buy a Volvo? Sure would. Would I buy a Volvo with a VED12 engine in it? If the price was right I sure would. Would I consider a truck spec'd like you show here? Yes I would.
