WC MN | Darrell,
I'm gonna be at about a 2/3 corn 1/3 beans rotation which is kind of where we have been headed over the last few years. We are very dry in the top 6-12" of our soil here. Last rain of note was first week of August. I believe Fargo has reported .6" of snow so far this fall/winter. Yesterday we had 52 degrees here with our normal high being shy of 20 degrees. We have had floods the last 3 springs here but the NWS has pegged our chances of reaching flood stage at only 11%. Lots of talk circulated this fall about a cold and snowy winter for us. SO far it has been much the opposite. Our weather has really been boring so far which is a nice change. I'm not sure what we will be looking at as we near spring in a couple months.
More corn will be planted here mostly replacing wheat. There is not a lot of corn on corn here but will probably be seeing more. Less wheat every year and with protien discounts and stagnant yields is almost guarenteed to be the lowest revenue crop (if it doesn't lose you money).
If we get off to a good start this spring I think the prices we are currently offered will look really good. If significant weather problems develope then who knows. Gonna be another uncertain marketing year which seems to be getting normal. | |
