For a few years I tried finding metal bolt bins in good condition at auctions, etc. until I came to the conclusion they just did not exist in the used market, so I went and bought brand new ones, and I'm very satisfied. They were ordered through an auto parts distributor, and it turned out they were made by this company:

They are well designed, although they are not really heavy duty ones. They have an angled "scoop" edges in the compartment so that washers and such don't get jammed on a seam when sliding one out. For the smaller size hardware, I double up the compartments with a 4" x 5" plastic bin inside. These are in the "farm" shop, which is more then a 5 minute walk from the house, so I have second shop area in the garage. There I made my own oak rack that holds different colour and sizes of plastic bins. The shop bins are metal because I wanted a neat appearance that will last for a lifetime, and not look all grubby and stained from greasy fingers.

Sorry, no pictures. Mom took the camera with her and she's gone to Florida for Christmas.

Von, your funneled "dump tray" is a neat idea.
