I don't think so. Mine cuts 3/4" fine and I've cut thin diamond plate steel for a truck bumper and you just follow the settings for each thickness. I'm not an expert by any stretch and haven't used mine a whole lot, but it works well each time I pull it out. Make sure you filter the heck out of the air. You don't and it will spit and sputter like a torch.
