Martinsville, Ohio | You've asked the question of the week, if not the month or year, Chris. I have been discussing this very thing with farmers here and across the country.
Some of the best soybean varieties only come with that technology. I don't know of anyone who is going to treat it like a non GMO with the tech fee added on.
The Purpose of Bayer's Respect the Rotation message is not only to sell LL soybeans but keep glyphosate viable as a herbicide. It is compared to the discovery of aspirin for pain and swelling as RR is compared to weed control. Since RR corn is so popular it makes good sense to use LL beans in that chemical rotation. I have not seen yield drag or lag in LL soybeans and the improvement in weed control is so great many farmers see 10 bushel or more yield increase.
Most of the country can keep glyphosate from becoming "virtually worthless" by changing chemical programs now.
I am not sure what the answer is but there are alternatives out there now. It may not be what we want but they are out there.
Great question, Chris.
