Guymon, OK | We're in the same boat as milofarmer. We picked up about an inch of rain last Friday and topsoil moisture is pretty good, but there is no subsoil moisture to speak of. Most of the dryland is up, but the stand is thin in some fields. I need to finish up rotary hoeing one of my fields this morning, every place there was a skip I could find seedlings that didn't break through the crust and just kept growing. Now they're 2-3 inches long and too spindly come through. I've never seen that happen before. Hopefully I can get a little sunlight to them and they'll perk up.
It sure is nice to see green everywhere. It's still a long way until harvest, but at least we got something out of the ground. That's a darn sight better than last year. | |
