| A few years back we owned a 527 that had a 4 bar HD MacFarlene harrow on the back. After purchasing a 530B with leveling discs on the rear we bought leveling discs for the 527 so it would leave the soil more like the 530. IMO, the harrow did a much better job of leveling than the discs. Originally we pulled the 527 with a CIH 7240mfd and then later with a CIH 9230 4wd. I always felt the 7240 & 527 was a good match in our heavy black soils, 9230 pretty much played with it but we later found out the tractor was turning 300hp.
If looking to buy that type of tool I would look at the 527B. Biggest issue we had with our 527 was breaking the pivot bolt where the horizontal arm connected to the frame brackets. IIRC correctly the bolt was a grade 5 3/4" bolt. When the bolt broke it could be a bear to get the broken one out and new one in. Broken bolts became more of a problem after we started pulling it with the 8230. Partially because we were running faster and partially because the machine was getting worn. I have broken as many as 7 in one day :~(. My understanding is that on the 527B the updated that bolt to a steel pin and increased the size to 1". Friends have a 527B they still run & they haven't had an issue with the pins as far as I know.
