cropsey, il 61731 | It's not our money. Though it's our grain until we sell it. Why should the market "act in the best interest of the farmer" Last time I checked that's not our market. Every attempt to "fair it up" usually results in worse problems. The problem is we want to grow whatever and however much we want and get a good price for it regardless of actual market conditions, but that's not how it works and never has. We are supposed to react to the market and control supply, but we don't. If you think the big commercial buyers are unfair, eliminate the middleman and add value yourself. Sure that's easier said than done and that's why middleman takes a pretty good cut - because it's not easy.
Some levels of socialism can survive in a society as long as there is a strong backbone of capitalism to fund it. Once the socialist concept of markets takes over (which, by definition can't work) everyone looses out - you run out of money (ie. check out the world - it's not a capitalism problem in the slightest)
