Subject: Re: Big 3 question Ed?????????

north central Oklahoma
Was visiting with a local custom picker last night concerning his thoughts on variety traits, good and bad. Has picked a lot of DK and Big P locally. His concerns with DK was the short ear height, gotta lick it off ground, and the deck shatter. More ears than he would like to see shell at the deck plates before it's ever pulled into auger. Local Big P variety doesn't do this. I plant a alot of GH, and am happy with my dealer's selections for me. The issues I have with the GH can be addressed as operator/planter inefficiencies. They are on my to-do list this winter.

Are these variety shortcomings listed above inherrent with the genetics of DK or maybe later plantings caused shorter plant height before ear set.
