Agent Orange: Friendly fire that keeps on burning. | Closest implement dealer of any color is 50+ miles. Local NAPA & CarQuest started charging $1+ per inch for hose + $10+ for ends. Not really sure that going to the dealers would be much different because somehow the word seems to get around that "so and so" is getting "this" for hoses and that somehow becomes the going price. I stock a few feet of 2-wire hoses from 1/4" to 1". I also stock a few of the more common ends and a few adapters. Discount hydraulic hose will usually have a special on a roll of 1/2" 2-wire for around $1.25 / foot and ship free with anything else you order. Otherwise, Priority Mail will usually get special fittings here in a couple days and the price is reasonable on the odd fitting that might not be in the shop stock. Here's my crimper and the table I made for it:
Cost about $1500, shipped in with all the pictured dies. I expect if I wanted to sell it, I could get about $1500 so the real cost of it is the time value of the money invested, minus the tax deduction I took when buying it. If anyone hasn't been keeping track, interest on saving isn't much these days so when all is said and done and you figure in tax payable on depreciation recapture for the sold item, the machine is probably going to be a little bit cheaper than free. |
