Check your lease to see if it converts into a month-to-month lease at expiration if a new lease or addendum isn't signed. Also check to see if there is a clause concerning duration of advance notice to either vacating or now renewing a lease. See if the lease mentions exclusive use of the basement by you and your family. IIRC, ILL law states the tenant has the "right to quiet enjoyment" of the property, meaning you don't disturb the neighbors and they aren't to disturb you if it is a multi-unit property. If these clauses are in your lease it can buy you time to find some new digs without needing to move in a timeframe such as one week. How were you informed of the son moving over? By law it should have been by a written and signed letter. With luck he won't be able to move into the property until you have vacated it. And when you move make sure everything is in good condition, less reasonable wear and tear. Hopefully a move-in inspection was done when you first moved to the home so any flaws present at time of move-in can't be discounted against your security deposit.

Next, TELL YOUR WIFE!!! Let her know you are finding out what to do. She can help look for a new place too, besides, you will need to tell her sometime. And if possible, consult a GOOD attorney familiar with landlord and tenancy law.
