. | As Buster said it depends on the type. The vast majority of thyroid cancer is papillary however. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer nearly 20 years ago. There was one positive lymph node taken out as well. Another node swelled up about 1 year later and it was also positive. At that time I was given I-131 radioactive iodine to destroy any remaining thyroid tissue. Take thyroid replacement hormone and have regular checkups, otherwise no problems.
