I use the stuff that goes inside. It uses double sided tape and then you use a hair dryer to shrink-fit the plastic. Works very well if I can keep my kids from shredding it. Doesn't seal if you have gaps around the window/wall joint, but works wonders on my old farm house windows. If you take the time and shrink it right, you'll almost never notice the plastic it's that clear.
