Ilderton, Ontario | "the difference is that what Ontario and Quebec produce is poor quality and all used domestically, on the export market it competes with SRW which is normally priced on a corn equivalent. "
Fact: about half to 2/3 of our wheat production is EXPORTED!
We grow 4 distinct classes of wheat in Ontario, with 2 more being developed, one of which is durum (prior to single desk selling we had 2-soft white/red spring). Quality can be a concern here in Ontario due to our moist climate, but I wouldn't call our wheat LOW quality, and the only reason it is going into feed rations this year is due to the price of corn. We have a very robust milling industry here in the great lakes region with lots of our SRW going into MI (thats in the US) with trucks returning with corn into our feed and ethanol industry (which we are deficient of). |
