Mixing all ingrediants together is the best way IMHO. As for Vertical vs Horizontal I cant comment on a vertical but if you are looking into horizontal most everyone, around here has Roto-Mix. They are considered the cadillac of feed wagons.
Are there people around there that run hay grinders? Thats by far the best option if it works out for you
