SNS in WC IL - Due to it's open nature, developers can offer that functionality on a STOCK phone...

You still seem to not be able to grasp the "open" concept. "Open" means the USER can make any changes he or she wants - not just developers. Android does not allow the user to tinker with anything and everything he or she wants, therefore it is locked down - same as Apple devices.

"Open" means that ANYONE can make changes. This is the essence of "open source". "Anyone" refers to developers, users, etc. It does NOT mean that every feature of the OS is customizable by the end-user in its compiled form, rooted or unrooted. It means that the SOURCE CODE (uncompiled, human-readable) is customizable. ANYONE can get the uncompiled source code and make whatever customizations they choose. Knowing how to make those changes, then knowing how to recompile and install on the hardware, is typically a skillset possessed by developers, but theoretically available to anyone.

So, Android DOES allow the end-user (retail customer) to tinker with anything and everything he or she wants, if the user has the skillset to do so. Same as Linux, OpenOffice, or any other open-source software application. This is not true of iOS (or Windows, for that matter). This is the difference between proprietary and open-source software.

This thread is filled with comparisons of apples and oranges (no pun intended).
