And therein lies a major problem with Android - fragmentation. What you call a "pre-release" is actually a released version of Android that your phone maker or carrier is stalling at getting pushed out to you so they can screw it up even further - sometimes taking months to finally get it in your hands. When a new version of iOS is released to the general public, it is available to everyone at the same time. SNS in WC IL - So you can "try" iOS5 right now? Is it freely available to everyone right now? The only "everyone" that has it right now are developers...
Wrong, and yes I could get 5.0 if i decided to Jailbreak - same as how you have to root to get the so-called "pre-release" Android. The difference being, iOS 5 is currently still in beta, but your "pre-release" was a fully released version of Android that your carrier was holding up. The beta versions of iOS 5 have been hitting the net within minutes it seems of Apple releasing it to developer account holders.
SNS in WC IL - App developers are allowed to "customize" the UI of a STOCK phone.
You mean "screw the device up", right?
SNS in WC IL - Due to it's open nature, developers can offer that functionality on a STOCK phone...
You still seem to not be able to grasp the "open" concept. "Open" means the USER can make any changes he or she wants - not just developers. Android does not allow the user to tinker with anything and everything he or she wants, therefore it is locked down - same as Apple devices. SNS in WC IL - As for the app drawer, the latest (free and available to everyone) version of Android has the option to be sorted by most used so all the potentially high use apps are at the top of the list.
Super! That was a much needed feature that I was unaware they had added.
SNS in WC IL - You had room for 80 app shortcuts and you couldn't find room for 20?
No, I only had around 20 apps at the peak - didn't say that I only had room for 20 app icons. The last several months I had the Droid, I was down to only about 5 non-stock apps. I only had 20 at the peak since I couldn't find anything I felt was worthwhile to even download and reduced that 20 to only around 5 because I finally figured out it was the crappy apps that were screwing my phone up. Even with only 5, it was still doing goofy things. The guy that ended up with my Droid went hog wild at first and is now down to only around 4-6 apps that he has kept. The same guy has over 60 apps on his iPad that he bought a couple of months ago. He has pretty much reduced that Droid to dumb phone status and is counting the days to iPhone 5 release since he is out of contract so he can get a device that "just works".
SNS in WC IL - iOS only has 16 placeholders per page, too. I assume you would have to flip through page after page of app shortcuts to find those less used apps since there's one for everything... How is this "better"?
You assume wrong. For each placeholder on a home screen, you can create a folder that can hold up to 12 apps. Fill the home screen with folders, each containing 12 apps and you have 192 apps available without leaving home screen #1. |
