Subject: RE: Really dumb cotton question

Northeast Louisiana

Here's a picker unloading into a boll buggy.  It's not my picture, but one I found on a free use site.

The module is simply a way of storing and transporting the seed cotton.  It used to be dumped into trailers and pulled to the gin.  When module builders came along, they increased the speed and distance cotton could be hauled to the gin, and they allowed it to be stored for longer before ginning.

Once the cotton is run through the gin to separate the lint from the seed and trash, the lint is put in a press and made into a bale.  Here are the specifications of a universal density bale of cotton.   http://www.cotton.org/tech/bale/bale-description.cfm
