| Despite the common misconception that Android is an "open" platform, you are limited to what you have access to in its stock form - same as iOS. OS files, for instance cannot be accessed without "rooting" - which is the same as jailbreaking on an iPhone. Rooting gives the user access to these restricted areas and you can then customize features that you'd normally not be able to.
For the record, it is a high risk procedure that can lead to "bricking" the device if you make a wrong move - making the phone into a very expensive paperweight - but some neat things can be done if you want to take that risk. | |
