Subject: RE: 995 switch plow

Badger, does the shear bolts go though the side or in the front of the arm. Neighbor bought a new 4 bottom about two years ago. Couldn't keep shear bolts in, at least in our hard ground. He told JD to come get it, he went and fixed his old JD 4200 slatted plow up. Said it was ten times the plow the switch plow was.

He went and looked at a older switch plow in the valley a guy had, they had shear bolts though the side. But I remember they had drilled theirs out to 3/8" grade 8's. I'm thinking they even went bigger, still had problems. I will ask him today what size he went too.

I know my 4200 plow had 5/16" in it, I drilled them out to 3/8" grade 8 long ago. I still shear them if not careful. Can't have much side torque, must plow straight. That's what seem to take mine out. I think we have the hardest ground ever. It also seemed that any little wear in shear bolt hole, and wear on pivot bolt, they sheared more frequently.
