flatlick farmer - 8/19/2011 09:46 So does spraying fungicides make us poor caretakers of our soils, which in turn makes us poor farmers? I really don't see the connection between the two.

I know well that You do not f-f

[/QUOTE You have me hooked. If there is a connection, please let me know. Farming is a combination of all types of practices, not just ones that fit our agenda or what we are selling even if that includes our services. I know of zero successful farmers who don't take care of their soil first. We all realize that without healthy soil there is only a small chance of raising a good crop. We have tried many snake oils over the years that were suppose to improve the soil life. So far, we have discovered that no matter how hard we try, mother nature builds soil better then we do although it is pretty easy to destroy if not careful.

so sorry you fell for all of those snake oil products. f.f.  Non of them pass a sound soil science review. I assure you.

and I have never recommended any of them. I am so glad that you agree with me that they do NOT work.

as I have said many times. there is no Long term issue if one scouts and uses fungicides, Insecticides when needed.

But the flavor of this Forum. and those verbal about the practice of fungicide and insecticide.applications. Is. as you can read.

Spray from sea to shining sea. each and every crop. and with many sales pitch reasons.

and admitted.  this comes, for the most part.  from those selling and applying the products.  that is their right.

(  just as I have the right to present my observations. and findings. ) that confirm the extension and independent research over the past 20 years.

and places to search. for independent research. But then s. Ill Steve pointed out that he did not trust any University, extension or  independent research and he would rather spray regardless. and that is fine. for him.

I say. Take head. review all of what the Independent researchers. Plant pathologist's say.

They have no more stake in this than I.

the use, or not the use of a fungicide has never been discussed when a potential client visits with me. Ever. it is not an issue nor is it part of my

soil consulting program.

If they, scouts, or we determine an application needs to be made.  It is made. with out question.  so far. No call for an application.

the decision is made on an individual field review of scouting and field history. and on the farm.  that farms. Fields plot work.

that benefits the FARMER

you have to consider, my consulting fee is the same. with or with out band aid products. and if the farmer looses $ . or his crops do not look good. or fail.

then He is not happy with me.
