| Ok, great. Windows has an "integral tool" that nobody knows anything about to clean the cobwebs out of the basement. Guess what - so does Mac OS. Want to know the similarity between them? Nobody knows anything about the Mac tool either because it runs all by itself, with no interaction by the user.
So lets compare the two - looking at them through the eyes of a typical computer user these days:
Mac: I turn my computer on and the system maintenance tools run by themselves with no interaction by me.
Win XP: Turn computer on. Log into administrator account. (Be careful - geek guy tells me this is where I can really screw this thing up.) Find command prompt. Type in "sfc.....", wait a minute - what was that again? Exit command prompt - log into NAT, read bwire's post again. Shut down IE, open command prompt and type in the cryptic string that will make my computer hum again. Let it do its thing. Ok, great - a little better, but still not as fast as it once was. Oh, defrag the HD!! Where did I see THAT app now? Spend 20 min digging around the Programs folder structure trying to find the Defrag app. Finally find it - run it. Whoa! Didn't really gain anything. What's wrong? Hmmmm, spend 3-4 hours looking around the net for a decent spyware removal tool. Download that, run it - takes awhile. While it's running, I start to think that if I had been more willing to pop anywhere from $40 - $80 per year, I at least wouldn't get the spyware - but what the heck, I'd still have to run all this other crap to actually keep my computer running like it should. Starting to think that maybe McCartman is right. Open IE and surf to Apple.com to take a look at what they have to offer.... ;) | |
