Highland Center, in Southeast Iowa | The whole piece was about 40' wide with the beams etc. The original estimate on the weight of the house was ~120,000. Our two boys and a friend spent several days taking all the plaster and lath out of the house before it was jacked up to move. The debris was taken to the landfill and weighed .................... nearly 22,000 pounds of stuff. We know of a big old home that was moved a few years ago where the weight of the house was 220,000. And in the world of buildings etc that get moved, those are small potatoes. It wouldn't be a job for me, that's for sure, but the guys who do it have it have made an art of it. |
