The way I see it, if you can squirrel the money away to plant a crop, unless things go to absolute depression times, you can almost always get a little help with a land or equipment note. If you lose a crop, then you're only owing yourself, and you have to face the hard choice on whether to get out before it's bad, or borrow on the next crop with hopes for a better year. Little off topic, but I got going there. I may never be able to walk away from my job because I don't want my wife to go to work, but my family hasn't had to sacrifice any regardless of the farm, I keep those two things financially separate, except for a small bonus I kick in to our household savings if things go well each season. | |
