For business venues having onsite IT support 24/7 Norton seems to be okay but it's still a resource hog and without a complete software reset on a scheduleĀ a system may fail.
I don't recommend Symantec products, I use ESET, F-Secure, Avira, Jetico and few others you wouldn't recognize for computer security.
Not many PC's designed for use of XP can hold a candle to any MACBOOK, but include the level of components and then it's a different animal all together an still quite less expensive than the MAC. Apparently you didn't a PC configured for your needs; you shouldn't have needed to know how to get one. Your Geek advisors may have given you a bum steer eh?

Some of your games seemed to slow the XP down but it is due to overdriving the graphics engine; most likely. Not that a properly configured XP system can't run the games requiring heavy video memory capabilities but yours doesn't.
Case in point against my advise a fella bought a low end laptop with XP after Vista had been released. Now this low end unit was a single core machine with 800MHz processor with total supported 600MB Memory. Not long after he witnessed a MAC in use and decided that MS was junk and like watching paint by comparision, go figure. The MAC is multiple core machine of course a Geo Metro wouldn't have chance if against a Z28 Camaro for exibition of speed.
Don't blame the PC for the disingeuous service you received.
You are being a bit condescending! I admit that I am not a computer tech. However, I did take a couple courses in basic PC maintenance 10 yrs ago. Guess if I would have taken two or three courses every year I could have done the work myself for free. No, I remember that those Community College classes are not free. I don't want to be a PC tech, so I paid someone else.
I used Norton at the time because it was known as one of the best. After that year subscription I used AVG free. Back then the talk was of viruses, and no one was warning of adware, malware, registry settings, etc. As for your mention of "Geek advisors"... I think I now have an okay PC tech. I've updated the system hardware regularly, including upgraded graphics/display cards. Systems always worked well after they were worked on & cleaned up. Latest system was 2.1 GHz, and adequate memory. I guess you consider those games to be some type of "serious gaming" games that require some type of high-end computer. Oh, now remember the SIM game was "Zoo Tycoon". Add Reader Rabbit, a couple Barbie games, etc. Twelve year old daughter at that time and the others are now ages 6 and 8. Inadequate system?? Nope.
No, I am NOT comparing an old PC to MacBook. I am comparing how well newer Macs maintain their performance as compared to newer PC's.
I could save couple hundred $ initially by buying a PC. Research, then add virus/adware/malware protection. Spend $75 annually to PC doctor to correct system crawl, plus system upgrades. And, heed my PC doctors advice for my wife to not use FaceBook, and to not let the kids play the free online games at PBS kids, Nick JR, Moshi Monster, etc.
Instead I decided to buy a Mac. | |
