Subject: Re: Farming in the middle east?

30+ years ago I was on a scholarship tour of Washington DC with the REC, and our group was invited to the Saudi embassy. We were given a presentation about career opportunities in agriculture. They seemed to be most interested in vegetable production, and talked a lot about irrigation and a massive desalinization program they were hoping to start.

We were treated very well for the two hours we were there. The presentation was made by full-grown men in silk suits, not interns. What made the big impression on me though, was that they were able to identify a group of Iowa farm kids and get an invitation to us. They were obviously serious about recruiting people with ag knowledge.
