Just a thought if you wanted to stick with a gas engine that should have more grunt if there was room for it.
How about an industrial Ford 200 cid inline 6? I know they were used on the Versatile 400 swathers. Still should be some good engines out there in worn out swathers.
IMO, the C-153 IH 4 cyl engine used in IH 210 swathers was a good engine also.
