And yes - Lion, I believe is a step toward taking OS X in the direction of iOS. Do I like the idea of dumbing it down? Depends. I like the idea of an easier, more efficient user interface. I don't like the idea of dumbing desktops down to the iPad level. But that is just me. I'm one out of hundreds who would love to see that happen - which as I explained in a post earlier today, is why the iPad is so popular.
I'm betting there were techies who hated the thought of a GUI back in the day too - and the GUI was a "dumbing down" of computing. I think that bringing mobile and desktop OS's together is going to be a natural evolution of computing and those of us who don't like the idea will have to suck it up and move with it or be left in the past. I guess I'd rather keep moving ahead.
