Mid Michigan | You have about a 50% divorce rate so there are plenty of chances you won't have the same people living in these new homes after five years. We've had dozens of them at work with young couples who had grandparents naive enough to give them a chunk of land off the family farm to build their dream house. I know of one that didn't even get finished before they split. My friend ended up buying it. What we have is a lot of urban sprawl with a lot of dreamers that think their new home will make them the happiest loving long lasting couple in the world. If we only build a new house we will be happy. So you spend $300,000 on a new house with 27 roof lines and attached 3 car garage, matching pole barn, pond, two new vehicles and a big fifth wheel parked outside. We have this same setup everywhere you look around here. Like somebody took a cookie cutter and made the same place on every corner. Usually after about 5 years of making $2000 a month mortgage payments life is stressfull and boring and the wife likes her boss a lot more than the hubby and there is a big Remax sign out in front of the dream home. That being said I wouldn't sell a building lot of any size off any of our farms if I was offered the amount we paid for them. Money is nice but peace of mind is priceless. | |
