Hagen Brothers farms,Goodrich ND | Interesting fix on the forklift Ed. On occasion I find forklifts, golfcarts, mowers that are pure battery electric, but hardly worth the cost of a new battery set. I have often wondered if they would convert to a bit of a hybrid, smaller deep cycle batteries and a lightweight 10 hp gas engine turning an automotive type 36 volt alternator.
I would think the genset would charge and run the device at light to mid load and charge the batteries. The smaller batteries would float inline to supply peak power needs, and recharge when less or no power is required.
Seems to me, that hybrid setup could be built for not more than $300, using a China Honda clone from HF and a Cheap rebuilt or new Delco truck alternator. Even with the the new small deep cycle batteries, should be under $600 and might extend the useful life of these things by quite a bit. |
