The Claas/JD combo is a good way to go. I don't think I'd bother setting up a PT for earlage if it would be in the price range with the NH in the Tractorhouse ad below. For that money, it's possible to get a serviceable SP that will be lightyears ahead in terms of both capacity and ease of use.

Here's a pic of our earlage setup. It works great, though it cost a good lot more than $52K.
