Wisconsin | Dad ran a 2 row snapper on a NH 900 for years. Shelling loss was pretty much nil..... I saw a lot of the covered ground while hauling wagon and filling bag and it looked good. Believe me, getting a perfectly clean trail while learning a combine is tougher than with the snapper on the 900. Took a lot of power to run; tractor went through a lot more fuel than doing regular corn silage, and were the wagons ever heavy.... and they were filled only 2/3 full, the one with the Kory gear only half full. Don't ever buy a Kory gear and expect it to operate at rated load. On the install, feed rolls were moved far apart, there were some angle iron brackets with belting bolted to them to minimize ear and shelling loss, and the flip up sheet metal between the head and tongue had to stay flipped up otherwise the snap head would hit it and bend it to hell. Expect a LOT of dust. Twelve sharp knives and a 3/8 inch screen will leave the feed looking like a hammer mill with same screen, maybe even finer. And you will see, feel, and hear much faster than normal when the knives need sharpening. Good luck and happy harvesting! | |
