I have mine set at 24 inches for planting.  It has worked well.  I tried 30 inches, but wasn't happy and went back to 24.  I started at 12, but had too many places that I lost convergence for too long.  I would suggest trying it and seeing if you are happy with the performance.  You can always tweak it or go back to where you started.
