condensing unit has been vacuumed and charged with a standard amount of refrigerant at the factory. It has a valve on each line (frequently a one time thing that once you punch it, it can never be closed again). You connect the lines between the evaporator coil and the condensing unit, leak check and vacuum that part out before turning the refrigerant loose into it.
