Subject: RE: OptRx

Eastern Iowa
I think these may be very benificial. I had 1 guy using them last year and added another this year. The only issues are were to set the VI "zero" and VI "minimum". Last year I set the VI zero at zero so it always applied the minimum N rate. Now setting the VI minimum can be a stab in the dark. No two years are ever the same, so if I set that number to low I will be over applying N on more acres and if I set the number to high I may be robbing soom yields. It will be a learning curve to correctly setting the appropriate values from my expierences so far. The concept of the OptRx somewhat contradict the practices of precision application, we should be applying more nutrients to the better areas of a field that can grow the crop and less nutrients to the poorer soils. The OptRx may do the opposite and apply more to the less fertile areas and vise verse. But we are always willing to try and also study news technologies. If anyone has questions about the OptRx sensors, give me a shout.
