I would imagine that Dutch's boss is either the owner, or one of the owner's of the gin. He has probably been letting this guy (one of his gin customers) do the harvesting because this harvester is letting them gin his cotton. So when harvester takes his cotton to another gin, there is probably another guy that gins his cotton at said gin that also has a combine and he gets the job. Kinda, "You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" type of deal.
