It's pretty hard to get control of folks, especially in a generally 'free' country, if you don't have doom just around the corner. I have not checked recently, but since gasoline has gone up so much, I'm willing to bet we have plenty of it laying around right now. Shortage is not the cause for high prices - bad news and speculation are.
So much for peak oil.
