Proud Mary lyrics..

I'm  fairly sure Fogerty sings ...  "Pumped a lot of pain down in New Orleans"  (lthough  in most songs its often  hard to pick exactly what he sings )

It never occurred to me it may be something else.


But I'm also sure that Tina Turner and Beyonce  sing  "Pumped a lot of 'tane...."     (octane, I guess.).

Friend  pointed it out to me I was helping her write it out for her sing in our little wannabe  band.


So what is the general consensus  here...?
