NW Iowa | Had a good (at the time) cow slip a calf a couple months ago. Not an old cow by any means, and in real good shape. We've got her in a seperate yard now with a few other cull cows putting some weight on them to go to the processor. Question is...would you send her off to the packer, send her to the sale barn as an open cow, drop her in the bull yard, breed her back and keep her around for a few months and sell her as a bred cow, or keep her and see what happens next spring? We typically turn the bulls in with the cows the beginning of July, so she's got a little time yet. Always hard to get rid of a good cow, but it's also hard to keep one that isn't performing. Makes it even harder when cows are as spendy as they are right now. | |
