SW Ontario | Well to say they don't work is not right. I am running the large bar with 2 sets of inserts in the front concave, that covers 2/3's of the front concave.
DOES AN AWESOME JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!
The thing is it depends on what kind of wheat. We are combining R47 pioneer SRW wheat and it is an easy threashing wheat. This set up is JUST AS GOOD as the small wire in these conditions.
If you don't have much wheat, or it is easy threashing, don't bother with the small wire.
If you have a bit of tough threashing stuff, just tighten the concave and close the bottom sieve to return any whitecaps and you will be fine.
My settings are:
rotor - 850
concave - 3
top - 15
bottom - 4
fan - 1000
This is in SRWW yielding 90 - 130 bu/acre, running @ 3.5 mph with 30 ft.
Our tickets at the elevator have been .4% total dockage, and we are delivering between 35 and 40 ton/hour. Losses out the back are less than 1/4% at this rate.
