E.Central MN | You don't understand the logic of crop insurance companies. The language in the policies usually requires notification followed by an inspection and/or permission to harvest a crop early. If you harvest without that permission they will likely tell you that they have no way of knowing how much you harvested(especially if like in this case it is hauled off the farm to another location). It doesn't matter if the field is currently under 5 feet of water, they are fastidious for following rules especially if they can get themselves off the hook of paying a claim. If the crop adjuster doesn't have time to come out and do a yield check on the field they usually will tell you over the phone to leave check strips. This is a very unusual situation so its anyone's guess how they would handle it, but they certainly don't want farmers profitting from collecting on the insurance and the crop, too. | |
