I see many school boards between a rock and a hard place. But if there is an academic course of study with 85 out of 400 enrolled in it, they better be cutting non-academic expenditures first (another way of saying extracurricular sports). What to do? Get involved. Seek out each school board member and express your concern. That does not mean yell and argue. I does mean asking intelligent questions, like "Why are we dropping something when 21% of the students are enrolled in it?" Attend school board meetings. Sometimes just being there is enough. When the next election rolls around be a candidate. Or at least vote. And keep in mind, they may have had to make a difficult decision. There just may not have been the funding to continue it. |
