I'd put in the exact width of the equipment pulled, or as close as you can. Make sure you have the tilt calibrated and you will be close. After several passes may be adjust narrower but you might not have to. I use mine for spraying and i just put in the exact width of my boom.

I see where on new JD tillage tools there is printed the width of the implement on the front of the machine, I suppose to use to set the swath on the GPS. Good idea, I guess.
