NE Illinois | I would find a number that is acceptable across all slopes and leave it. It really won't be feasible to be constantly changing that number as you move between different slopes. I would agree that you should be cautious entering a factor above 3. Like you said, you really just need to get out there and do some playing around to see what works best in your area.
