The 04 has the vehicle speed sensor in the transfer case. It will put the trans in limp mode if you remove it. You would need a 2wd tailhousing on the trans. What transfer case does it have? What are the problems you are having with it? There are a few things you can update on those tramsfer cases to ,make them a lot better more reliable.
