I went to magnum hydraulic/transmission service school in the 90's in racine, and the instructor pointed out the fact that the housings all had IH stampings. He made it sound like the design was largely done by the time of the merger, just the engine switch and cosmetics were left. Not sure if it was true, just what he said.
