I'll go along with that. But have you ever heard the old saying - "Too many chefs will spoil the soup"?

And think about this too - Linux has always been open source. And yet, what OS's rule the planet? Windows and Mac - both of which hang tightly to their builds until they feel they are ready for prime time. One just does it considerably better, IMO.  ;)

BUT - looks like perhaps even Google is rethinking this strategy:

But, lets go back to what you posted. Yes, Apple may very well "lose" in the long run - and that is a stretch, depending on how you define "lose". But as long as they continue to innovate the way they have been, all the rest will still be playing second fiddle. Apple has been the company to bring the smartphone and touch tablet to the masses. Google, RIM, HTC, Moto, Samsung, and even Microsoft have been spoon fed by the company that is really doing the innovating - Apple. The rest have repeatedly had to scramble to catch up and remain competitive - or die. Yes, Android may win out in years to come in terms of market share, but if you are happy "winning" in an outdated product category while the "loser" is cleaning house with the next big thing, more power to you. When it comes right down to it - Apple is making billions with cutting edge products and the rest are stumbling, fumbling, and fighting with one another trying to keep up - to the point that it almost looks like a Three Stooges movie.  The user experience on Android devices will never match that of Apple and iOS. The only way to really nail it down is to make the hardware AND the software - and ensure that it is built to work well together. And then you need a store to fill out the rest of the ecosystem. Only Apple has a one stop shop for music, apps, books, podcasts, games, ringtones, TV shows, etc. You can claim to have the Android Market, but what can you get there besides apps? So, to sum it up - yes, there will be Android phones and tablets out there that will "beat" Apple's in specs and features - at least temporarily - but nobody is even CLOSE to matching the iOS experience as a whole - and here we are, closing in on five years after the first iPhone. Until that happens, and as long as Apple stays on top of the innovation game, I don't see them "losing" anything.
