| Jobs is still fully involved in what is going on at Apple - he has stated that himself. Just because he isn't at the office, doesn't mean he isn't involved in the major decision making. Most of the devices that Apple has been producing have been designed by Jony Ives anyhow - and he is young and healthy. Jobs is mostly involved in deciding which of his designs they run with. When Jobs was out for awhile for his liver transplant in '09, Tim Cooke ran the company in his absence and Apple had a terrific run-up under his control.
My point being - if Jobs dropped dead today, it would be a minimum of two years before his absence would be noticed in the latest products they are releasing. It has no bearing whatsoever on whether Mike should pick a Mac Mini as his next computer or not. I also believe there were lessons learned at Apple from the last time Jobs was out of the company for an extended period of time (back in the 90's). I can pretty much guarantee that won't happen again. | |
